If you are planning to build or renovate a home in India, you have almost certainly come across the term 3D rendering. Architects send them. Developers include them in brochures. Interior designers use them to show clients how a finished room will look before a single wall is painted.
But what exactly goes into a 3D rendering of a house? What does it cost in India? And how do you tell the difference between a studio that will produce something genuinely useful and one that delivers a blurry image that looks nothing like your project?
This guide answers all of those questions. At Abhi’s Creation in Pune, we have been producing architectural 3D renders for clients across India for years, and we want to give you an honest, practical picture of what the process involves.
What is a 3D rendering of a house?
A 3D house rendering is a photorealistic digital image produced from your architectural drawings, floor plans, or design brief. Using software that simulates real-world lighting, materials, and geometry, a skilled visualizer builds a virtual version of your home and renders it as a still image or a series of images from chosen viewpoints.
The result looks like a photograph of a building that does not yet exist. You can see the exact color of the exterior paint, the texture of the stone cladding, how the light falls across the front elevation at a particular time of day, and how the landscaping frames the entrance. Everything is there before a single brick is laid.
Types of 3D house renders: what each one shows
Exterior rendering
The most commonly requested type. Shows the outside of the building from one or more angles, typically the front elevation, a corner view, and sometimes an aerial perspective. Exterior renders show the facade materials, window frames, roof tiles, gates, driveway, and surrounding landscaping.
This is the render that appears on builder hoardings, in project brochures, and in presentations to planning authorities.
Interior rendering
Shows the inside of a room or space as it will appear when complete, with furniture, finishes, lighting, flooring, joinery, and decor all modelled and rendered in full detail. Interior renders are essential when you are choosing between two different design directions, or when you need to show a client exactly what their living room, bedroom, or kitchen will look like.
Elevation rendering
A flat, orthographic view of each face of the building front, rear, and side. Elevation renders are typically used for planning applications and approval processes, where a technically accurate representation of every facade is required.
3D walkthrough animation
A video that moves through or around the building, giving a continuous sense of the space rather than a series of still images. Walkthroughs are increasingly requested for residential projects in India because they allow a client to experience the home before it is built. See our separate guide on 3D walkthrough animation for full details.
What affects the cost of a 3D house rendering in India?
The honest answer is: quite a lot of things. Here are the main factors that determine what you will pay:
• Size and complexity of the project. A compact 2 BHK with simple geometry costs significantly less to render than a large bungalow with detailed landscaping, a pool, and complex facade elements.
• Number of views. A single exterior render from one angle is the most affordable option. A full package with exterior views, interior renders of multiple rooms, and elevation drawings will cost more but also gives you a complete presentation set.
• Level of detail. Photorealistic renders with accurate material textures, custom furniture, and HDR lighting take longer to produce than simpler visualizations. The more closely the render needs to match your intended specifications, the more work is involved.
• Turnaround time. Standard delivery is usually 5 to 10 working days depending on project size. If you need renders urgently for a presentation, a client meeting, or a submission deadline, expedited delivery may carry an additional fee.
• Revision rounds. Most studios include one or two rounds of revisions in their base price. Additional changes beyond that, especially structural or material changes, may be charged separately.
At Abhi’s Creation, we provide a detailed quote after reviewing your drawings and understanding exactly what you need. We would rather give you an accurate number upfront than quote low and surprise you later.
What to look for when choosing a 3D rendering company in India
Portfolio quality and relevance
The most important thing you can evaluate is the quality of a studio's existing work. Look at their portfolio and ask yourself whether the renders look photorealistic or flat, whether the materials have real texture and variation, and whether the lighting feels natural. Also check that their portfolio includes projects similar to yours in scale and type. A studio that specializes in commercial interiors may not be the right choice for a residential bungalow.
Communication and process
A good rendering studio will ask you detailed questions about your project before quoting. They will want to see your floor plans and elevations, understand your material preferences, discuss the viewpoints that will be most useful, and agree on a delivery timeline. If a studio provides a quote without asking these questions, treat that as a warning sign.
Revision policy
Your first round of renders will almost always prompt feedback. Colors look different on screen than you imagined. A door appears in the wrong position. You want to see an alternative material option. A studio with a clear, fair revision policy and one that includes at least one or two rounds of changes in the base price will make this process much less stressful.
File delivery
Ask what format the final renders are delivered in. High-resolution PNG or TIFF files are standard for print and presentation. If you need renders for a website or digital brochure, confirm the studio can deliver web-optimized versions. Some studios also provide the source files useful if you want to make changes in future without starting from scratch.
How Abhi’s Creation approaches 3D house rendering projects
When a client comes to us for a 3D rendering of their house in India, our process follows a consistent path: initial brief and drawing review, quotation and timeline confirmation, first draft renders for client review, revisions based on feedback, and final delivery in agreed formats.
We work in 3ds Max and V-Ray for photorealistic exterior and interior renders, and produce walkthroughs in Lumion. Our team handles residential projects from small apartments to large bungalows, and we work with clients in Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and across India.
We also understand that most clients are not technical experts in 3D visualization. Part of our job is to translate what is in the drawings into what the client sees on screen and to flag anything in the design that might look different in three dimensions than it reads on a flat plan.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a 3D rendering of a house take? Standard turnaround for a residential exterior render is 4 to 7 working days. A full package including interiors and elevation renders typically takes 10 to 15 working days, depending on complexity and feedback turnaround.
Can I make changes after seeing the first draft? Yes. Our standard packages include two rounds of revisions. We can accommodate additional revision rounds; we will discuss this with you before we start work.
What do I need to provide? Ideally: architectural drawings or floor plans, elevation drawings, a list of the views you want rendered, and your material and color preferences. If you do not have complete drawings yet, we can work from a detailed brief and refine as the design develops.
What format will the renders be delivered in? High-resolution PNG files as standard, suitable for print and presentation. We can also deliver JPEGs for web use and provide source files on request. Do you work with clients outside Pune? Yes, the entire process works remotely. We work with clients across India and regularly deliver projects for clients in Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, and beyond.
